Modern Public Services

In February 2018, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP approved the Dorset councils’ plan to replace the existing nine authorities with two unitary councils; who would provide all council services for their own residents.

In Poole we have high ambitions for our local area and these will become stronger as Poole joins forces with Bournemouth and Christchurch. Together we will create the 16th largest urban area in the UK and we will be served by one new council.  Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council will be operational from April 2019.

Its goals are to achieve:

  • a 21st century city by the sea
  • growth in digital and knowledge based economies
  • nationally significant arts and culture
  • housing that supports growth and meets local needs
  • improved transport links with London and the South East
  • modern public service delivery
  • investment in skills and cutting-edge research and development
  • stronger collaboration with its two world-class Universities
