Cabinet approved, in principle, £3.838million from Homes England’s Accelerated Construction Programme at their meeting on 12 March 2019.
This funding together with a further £420,000 provided through a mix of Homes England grant, Section 106 monies collected to deliver affordable housing and the Council’s 2018/19 budget, will help support delivery of the project to the stage of obtaining outline planning permission.
The proposal includes provision of up to 400 new homes, including 40% affordable homes, using off-site modern methods of construction plus improved community facilities. The site is included in the recently adopted Poole Local Plan.
The Council will now look to carry out soft market testing and seek a delivery partner. In addition a public/stakeholder consultation programme will be carried out to support the planning application.
Cllr Ian Potter, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Planning, Regeneration and Transportation, Borough of Poole, said:
“We are continuing to explore the feasibility of providing a mixed housing scheme and community facilities on this site and this welcomed funding enables us to accelerate delivery by progressing decisions around site preparation, remediation and a contractor/partner procurement process.
“There are still a number of risks associated with the scheme, but Cabinet’s decision to progress this project gives a clear commitment to bringing this site forward to deliver much-needed homes for local people.”
If this scheme progresses, all remediation works on the site would have to be completed and construction of the new homes started by March 2021 to meet the funding conditions.
