What's happening?

We are a major landowner in the Town Centre North area, including the Dolphin Shopping Centre. Renegotiating the leases with LGIM Real Assets enables them to release a £26 million investment programme; to provide:

  • an internal mall refurbishment in the Dolphin Shopping Centre
  • upgraded public realm and shop facades around Falkland Square and Kingland Crescent
  • attractive retail and leisure to draw more people into the town to shop and socialise
  • creating a stronger retail and food/beverage offer
  • a new nine screen cinema, featuring a rooftop screen and bar

Agreeing the new leasehold arrangements committed the Council to a programme of improvements for the Dolphin Shopping Centre multi-storey car park, completed in 2016/17. We also carried out similar improvements to the Shoppers 1 & 2 car parks. The Council’s total investment to support retailers and meet modern shopper and visitor expectations was £2.3 million.
